The Specifics of Back-to-Back Testing

The efficient process of software product testing requires the analysis of a wide range of factors and different aspect of the product. Among them, there are the app or program features, client’s requirements, available specifications, defined deadlines, available resources, etc.

When the test strategies and principles are defined, then the test team designs the test scenarios and writes the test cases to provide as big test coverage as possible. Of course, every specialist engaged in providing the QA services should know well the specifics of various testing types – both manual testing and automated testing.

To perform back-to-back testing is rather wide-spread practice. This checking type is conducted if there are several variants of the system components with somehow similar input parameters. Different combinations of input parameters are tested and the actual results are compared to define any errors or mismatches.

How to Perform Back-to-Back Testing?

  1. To define the testing goals and write the test cases.
  2. To run the designed test cases.
  3. To compare the actual and expected result.
  4. To generate the test reports and provide the development or product team with the results.

To cut a long story short, if there are two similar mappers, then back-to-back testing is conducted – only one of these mappers is under stress while another one is not exposed to any load. After that, the results are compared and analyzed.

Moreover, from the financial point, it is rather profitable to apply the principle of back-to-back checking when several modifications of one and the same system are developed. In such a case, there is no need to conduct performance testing one more time as a tester can just compare the test results of various versions.
