CROC Implements Advanced Unified Data Storage System for Razgulay Group

CROC recently upgraded data storage and backup systems at Razgulay Group, the largest agricultural holding in Russia. The project was implemented within three months.

Razgulay Group is one of the few market players using advanced data storage technology.

“The project was vital for us. We are implementing the group’s centralized unified accounting system in which DBMS, virtualization and terminal access systems are critical elements. Their fundamental component is a data storage system—a platform for creating a high-performance, fault-tolerant and fully scalable disk subsystem. The current level of scalability will be sufficient for operations for the next five years. Furthermore, we replaced our backup system so as to comply with performance and autonomous operation requirements,” said Alexander Krasnov, Deputy Director General for IT, Razgulay Group.

To implement the project, Razgulay Group selected CROC, which has been creating and upgrading data storage systems in major geographically-distributed organizations for over ten years.

“The centralized data storage system was created on EMC Celerra hardware and allows Razgulay Group to easily expand storage space by adding new disks without any replacement or purchase of new equipment. This configuration supports storage expansion for up to 120 disks and can be further upgraded to support up to 960 disks with a total volume of hundreds of terabytes. The system is in line with the holding’s continuing and dynamic development and will not interrupt information growth. In addition, data storage has become more reliable as data storage and backup systems are located in different server rooms within one building,” remarked Vladimir Kolganov, Head of Data Storage Systems, CROC.

“Storage system unification is a necessity for almost all companies that store data on high-performance and scalable disk storage systems. ЕМС Celerra is a perfect solution to increase the scope of server virtualization. Regardless of the customer’s server virtualization platform (VMware®, MicrosoftHyper-V™ or Xen), ЕМС Celerra systems are fully certified for all supported protocols in order to enable the successful rollover of virtual infrastructures at all deployment stages,” comments Evgeny Pukhov, Business Development Manager, Unified Storage Systems, EMC.

The centralized backup system is a comprehensive solution which offers multiple data management functions on one platform within both a physical and virtual environment. Thanks to automated functionality, data recovery is quick and requires minimum IT staff interference. CommVault Simpana software helps the holding to expand data backup functionality via replication and offers archiving, storage system resource management, information indexing, search and classification, and information lifecycle management functionality.

During the project, training sessions on how to use the new hardware and software were conducted in order to ensure that the customer will be able to administrate and configure the implemented system in the future.
