Firms will overspend on wireless services, research claims

New research suggests that the majority of businesses will overspend on their wireless service costs, which may highlight a use for IT outsourcing.

A study carried out by IT industry analyst Gartner predicted that 80 per cent of companies will see an average of 15 per cent overspend on the technology through to 2014.

The organisation claimed that the cost of wireless services have increased alongside the mobility they provide and said that firms should investigate how to resolve this.

Phil Redman, research vice president at Gartner, said the study found that the majority of businesses fail to manage their mobile users or services.

He added: “They need to look more closely at their key user segments and requirements in order to match those needs with the right services and optimise their spending.”

Dan Shey, mobile services practice director at ABI Research, claimed that the adoption of cloud computing can allow firms to increase the services provided by their mobile phones.
