Sigma Ukraine takes part in the study of Norwegian research organization

Sigma Ukraine helped to conduct scientific investigation made by Simula Research Laboratory. Around 60 Sigma Ukraine specialists passed the tests dedicated to understanding of estimation accuracy: the goal of the study is to improve software estimation methods.

Simula Research Laboratory (SRL) is a Norwegian research organization, which conducts researches in such areas as networks and distributed systems, scientific computing and software engineering.

The cooperation between SRL and Sigma Ukraine started back in 2008, when Simula’s Research scientist, professor Magne Jшrgensen, invited Sigma Ukraine to take part in a major survey being conducted in a number of software companies in Eastern Europe. The results of the survey will answer the request of the University of Oslo to produce improved tools, languages, methodologies and techniques for project estimation.

“We are very glad to take part in the scientific research, which helps improving software estimation techniques”, said Valery Krasovsky, Sigma Ukraine COO. “Accurate estimation is one of the important cornerstones of the successful project, which helps to deliver it in time and on budget. We, at Sigma Ukraine, always work to improve our estimation process, which is based on our experience and past endeavors.”

Analysis of the collected data is still in progress, but already providing the researchers with results, potentially leading to improved estimation practices. Research reports can be downloaded from www.simula.no.

“Research made by Simula discovers new ways of offering reliability, which is extremely valuable for all our clients. Exact estimates help us to make important decisions on the very first project stages”, said Svetlana Neymyrok, Sigma Ukraine Business Development Manager.
