Baltic Data Center, a leader in the management of data centers and information systems in the Baltic States, acquired a 100 per cent stake in Internet services company Hostex. The acquisition of one of the leading providers of web hosting services in Lithuania will allow Baltic Data Center to offer customers new services and improve their quality.

After the acquisition, Hostex will operate as a subsidiary of Baltic Data Center. Until now, 100 per cent shares of Hostex were controlled by Estonian venture capital fund AS Martinson Trigon. MP Bank hf. Baltic Branch and law firm Lideika, Petrauskas, Valiūnas and Partners LAWIN acted as advisers in the acquisition of the company.

Operating since 1995, Hostex employs 20 people. The company’s customer base ranges from residential and small companies to internet portals. After the acquisition of this company, the number of customers using Baltic Data Center’s web hosting services will double to approximately 10 thousand.

According to Saulius Markūnas, Director of Baltic Data Center, a company belonging to TEO Group, the acquisition of one of the leading providers of web hosting services in Lithuania will allow to make more efficient use of available technological resources and to improve the quality of provided services.

“Hostex’s experience in the web hosting market and the long-year experience of the specialists of Baltic Data Center’s data centers will enable us to offer new services to customers in Lithuania and other European countries”, – S. Markūnas said.

At international awards, Baltic Data Center has been repeatedly recognized as the best data center operator in Central and Eastern Europe. This year the company installed the first data centre in Central and Eastern Europe that uses the KyotoCooling technology for server cooling and consumes 8 times less energy and is much more environmentally-friendly. Last year the company installed the first in the Baltic States liquid-cooled data center, distinguished by its environmental performance and energy savings.

According to the data of IDC, an international IT market research company, the web hosting services market is one of the most dynamic. It is estimated that revenues from these services double every 4 years and in 2012 they will amount to approximately 29 billion U.S. dollars. In 2009, there were more than 100 million websites in the world with the number growing annually by around 30 percent.
