BPO’s eyeing Europe

With the market witnessing recovery, major Indian BPO companies. Genpact, Infosys BPO and HCL, are looking at acquisitions in China and Europe. Genpact, which recently started focusing on the domestic market, is looking for acquisitions in India and other markets across various verticals such as supply chain, healthcare, captives and accounting and financial services.

“We are eyeing acquisitions for sometime and looking at many deals. We are not only looking at India but scouting for acquisitions in the US, China and Europe,” president and CEO of Genpact Pramod Bhasin told reporters on the sidelines of the India Economic Summit. However, he said the plans could face hurdles if pricing goes up in the near future. “Pricing is very important for us,” he added.

Infosys BPO is also scouting for acquisitions in the US, China and European countries with the economic conditions are showing signs of revival.

“We are planning for acquisitions worth $50 – $100 million in countries like the US and Europe in the near future,” Infosys BPO CEO and managing director Amitabh Chaudhry said.

CEO of HCL Technologies Vineet Nayar also said that the company is looking at platform-based acquisitions for its BPO such as in enterprise applications and infrastructure in continental countries, Europe and China. He said it is not necessary that companies will go for acquisitions because of a fall in their valuations.

“It is part of our strategy, based on which we will go for acquisitions. There are certain gaps and we will try to address those gaps through inorganic and organic ways,” he said.

The industry has started signs of revival with companies starting to hire. Infosys BPO plans to hire around 1,200 people by March to expand services. The company has 16,500 employees. Bhasin said Genpact has hired 7,000 people so far for its global operations.
