World Information Society Day was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly on 27th of March 2006. It is the continuation of World Telecommunication Day and that is why it’s full name is World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.

Each year, on this occasion, there are held various events, panel discussions, meeting and a wide marketing campaign is conducted.
 
In Poland the World Information Society Day is organized by Polish Information Society. For many years EXATEL has been the main sponsor of this event.
