Expert says cutting costs such as IT outsourcing could be unwise

Cutting back on costs, such as those connected with IT outsourcing, could be an unwise way of dealing with the downturn, an expert asserts.

Ian Kilpatrick, chairman of Wick Hill, tells WhatPC? that the recession offers companies the opportunity to grow their margins and embrace new business opportunities.

He emphasises the importance of focusing on areas where the organisation is strongest, working on maintaining margins through initiatives such as value-add sales.

One of the fields he identifies as promising potential successes is security, as this is an aspect that consumers are becoming increasingly aware of, the news provider reports.

Mr Kilpatrick also identifies communication technologies such as VoIP, hosted security and wide-area network optimisation as growing sectors.

He advises: “Look for vendors and distributors that are still supporting and investing in marketing, develop a close relationship with them and give them feedback.”
