Forum: Development of IT allows raising GDP, attracting investors

The development of information technologies will allow Moldova to augment the GDP, to improve the competitiveness of products and to attract new investors, Minister of Information Development Pavel Buceatschii said at the opening of the ITU-D Regional Development Forum for the EUR and CIS Region NGN and Broadband, Opportunities and Challenges.

He said that the rise of the public informing level, which can bring big profits and will lower the expenses of the sector, is a vitally important task.

“The up-to-date Moldovan society can develop only, if it has a developed information infrastructure and the possibility of introducing new advanced technologies”, Buchatschi said.

In First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Trade Igor Dodon’s words, though Moldova is going through a hard time now under the influence of the financial and economic crisis, it is necessary to exert ourselves to enable the sector of information technologies to continue attracting investments in Moldova’s economy.

General Secretary of the International Telecommunication Union Hamadoun I. Toure remarked that Moldova reached impressive results in the development of information technologies, in particular, in the development of wideband access to NGN elements.

Representatives of about 20 countries participate in the three-day forum. Various sessions, dedicated to working out new digital technologies, their use in all the activity spheres, as well as promoting digital services in the regions of the EUR and CIS regions take place in the frame of the forum.
