IT outsourcing providers facing a busy year, says Gartner

European businesses and organisations are planning on outsourcing more of their technology functions to IT support providers in 2010, a new study has found.

Some 53 per cent of firms questioned by Gartner said they would outsource more IT this year, while 40 per cent are planning to increase their external IT spending.

The survey also found an increase in the percentage of organisations spending between 50 per cent and 75 per cent of their IT funds on external service providers.

“However, the results also showed that the pressure on capital and IT operating expenditure is still strong, and European organisations expect providers to deliver further cost reductions,” said Gartner vice-president Claudio Da Rold.

“Although 40 per cent of respondents said they will increase the external share of their budget, only 24 per cent said that they will increase the budget for providers.”

Writing for Electro Articles, Mansi Gupta recently claimed that the popularity of IT outsourcing services is continuing to increase.
