IT Ukraine Association Represents Ukrainian IT Industry at Important International Forums

In May, 2008, IT Ukraine Association has represented the Ukrainian IT sector at two largest international forums.

Mr. Eugene Kochkin, Association President, and Mr. Dmitry Lisitsky, its President-Elect, have taken an active part in one of them – XVIth World Congress of Information Technologies (WCIT), held on May, 18th – 22nd, in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). This most representative international IT business forum is organized once in two years by the World Alliance of IT Technologies and Services (WITSA), which our Association is a member of, since 2004. It is intended to discuss the key issues of ICT sector further development among the most distinguished representatives of world business and politics. Ukrainian representatives participated in panel discussions and round tables, as well as in its plenary sessions. A current WCIT has set new records – within five days it housed over 3,000 delegates of 92 world countries, and 150 speakers presented their reports at plenary sessions. A specific feature of this Event was the fact that all plenary sessions had been attended by the Prime Minister of Malaysia (Head of the State), while Ministers for Information Technologies of many world countries were among members of national delegations. It shows, time and again, that outside Ukraine the states are giving the top priority to the development of our innovation sector.

Along with WCIT, another WITSA General Assembly was held, with a new leadership of this international entity elected. Representatives of Malaysian Association PIKOM were elected as WITSA Chairman and Secretary General.

Another forum – General Assembly of the European Digital Technology Association (EICTA), was held in Brussels on May, 21st. “IT Ukraine” was represented there by Mr. Alexey Kozhenkin, its Managing Director. EICTA unites the largest European and world companies (operating in Europe), manufacturers of ICT and electronic equipment, as well as the Associations belonging to EEUU member countries (with the exception made only for Switzerland, Norway, Turkey and Ukraine). The General Assembly has elected the new President of EICTA (Mr. E. Ormala, VP of “Nokia”), its Vice President (Mr. B. Taselaar, President of Dutch Association), and half of Executive Board members, equally composed of company and association representatives. One can notice strengthening positions of CEE Region – another two our colleagues from Poland and Hungary were elected to the Executive Board.
