IT outsourcing allows companies to focus on core business

Companies who choose to outsource their IT operations can gain a number of benefits by doing so, it has been claimed.

Chief technology officer and executive vice-president of Presidio Dave Hart has been extolling the virtues of the option in a Bloomberg BusinessWeek article that looked at the differences between outsourcing and out-tasking.

The industry expert explained that the former is a method by which the management or execution of the entire IT function of a firm is transferred to an external provider.

Mr Hart commented: “This offers significant benefits for organisations that want to focus on their core business.”

Support and managed services therefore alleviate the need to build up a large IT department, he explained.

It was recently reported that global IT outsourcing is on the increase.

Research conducted by the Everest Group revealed 444 deals in the sector were carried out in the first quarter of 2010, which was an increase of almost six per cent on the same time last year.
