Long term counseling for PBS Turbo

Aimtec has been cooperating with engineering company PBS Turbo on the optimisation of production planning and management since 2003.  A project for the bottleneck management of production capacity and a project of implementating serial production in accordance with lean principles has been realised in PBS Turbo . Aimtec confirmed its role as an all-round consultant in terms of proposed changes and management of the implementation project.

PBS Turbo s.r.o. is a medium-sized company located in Velka Bites. It was founded in 1997 from the Turbocharger Division of Prvni brnenska strojirna. A joint venture with the former MAN B&W Diesel AG, Augsburg (now MAN Diesel & Turbo SE) was found this year. The company manufactures turbochargers for marine engines and engines for mining trucks. Production programme consists of own design turbochargers as well as turborchargers manufactured under license from MAN. It is a complex engineering production with a high added value. A demanding process is, for example, the machining of blade profiles of the impeller and diffusion rings. Planning is complicated by long purchase lead times, especially for castings and forgings.

Sign of a long term partnership

The cooperation between Aimtec and PBS Turbo began seven years ago. Sales growth and increase in number of turbocharger production models resulted in an undesirable increase of inventory levels. Aimtec offered a solution based on planning by bottleneck (TOC – Theory of Constraints ), without the need to change the existing information system. Consultation services brought the benefit of reduced inventory levels.

Consultancy in production management and planning

In 2008, PBS Turbo anticipated to bring into production new type series with a higher serial rate. In addition to investement into machine equipment and changes to the method of assembly, changes to the method of management and planning of production became necessary. In terms of the latter, PBS Turbo once again chose Aimtec as their partner, who helped to propose a new method of management and planning of material flow through production. During implementation of the changes, Aimtec provided project management support.
