Poland’s most powerful supercomputer in installation at Kraków university

Poland’s most powerful supercomputer is being installed at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków.

Poland’s second city will be home to Prometheus, a Hewlett-Packard product worth PLN 41 million (EUR 9.8 million).

The supercomputer, the world’s 30th most powerful, will be unveiled at the beginning of April.

Its computing power of 1.7 petaflops (one petaflop is 10 to the power of 15 operations per second) will exceed Poland’s currently most powerful machine four times.

The supercomputer is made up to 1,700 servers of the HP Apollo 8000 platform, linked by the superfast Infiniband connection with speed of 56 Gbit/s.
