Russia’s Coordination Centre for Top Level National Domains has announced the rise of .ru to 8th largest TLD.

According to the Domain Name Industry Brief released by company Verisign, the total number of registered domains (across all zones) up to 31^st March 2014 was 276 million, having risen by 5 million for the first 3 months of this year.

Of the 5 million new registered domains this year, 3.6 million were national domains. By the end of the first quarter of 2014 the total number was around 127 million.

This increase led the top level domain .ru to rise to 8th place, overtaking .Info.
