Sigma announces the winners of the “University Game Awards 2010” student contest

The awarding ceremony of the international student contest, which was organized by G2 Boss Media, Eclipse SP and Sigma Kudos, discovered the authors of the best online game ideas among Swedish and Ukrainian students.

“University Game Awards” contest is aimed to find fresh and innovative online game ideas. The contest was launched thanks to joint initiative and previous successful cooperation of G2 Boss Media, Eclipse SP, member of Sigma Group, and Sigma Kudos. Since Sigma had earlier initiated series of educational programs between Swedish University Linneaus and Ukrainian Kharkiv University of Radio and Electronics, it was decided to hold the first contest among students of these two universities.

The contest was started in March, 2010. After all ideas were submitted, the jury had chosen the best two, basing on such criterias as originality of the game concept, technical implementation and business value. The winners were announced in September:

1st place: Jakob Carlbring Alm from Linnaeus University, who won a prize of Ђ1000 and a whole day meeting with G2 Boss Media game development teams.
2nd place: Aleksandr Grinchenko from Kharkiv National University of Radio and Electronics, who won a prize of Ђ500.
Those game ideas will be put into the game studio process by G2 Boss Media, and the authors will be able to follow their game ideas progress.

“Throughout the competition we’ve seen many great ideas, but these two stood out as the best of the best,” said Henric Westergren, Head of Casino & Games at G2 Boss Media. “These projects were the most well-developed, uniting exciting idea with technology and fitting the rules of gaming business.”

In 2011, it is planned to expand the contest, inviting more students from different Ukrainian and Swedish high schools.

“This contest provides a platform for students to explore new ways using the power of software to make a real contribution to the gaming world, and for Universities to broaden their successful cooperation,” said Valery Krasovsky, Eclipse SP COO. “We are glad to help young specialists get hands on experience in working with such a world-known leader in gaming business as Boss Media and get knowledge directly from its core development team.”
