SMEs plan IT spending increase

Small to medium size enterprises (SMEs) are readying themselves to invest more in IT this year, new research has revealed.

According to NPD’s Technology Report, more than 60 per cent of SMEs intend to spend more on their IT infrastructure over the rest of 2010, which may lead to more firms signing IT outsourcing agreements.

The market research company’s research found the majority of firms identified a need for more hardware as key to their future success.

Almost 80 per cent of respondents are planning to buy more PCs as part of a long-term plan to upgrade their IT systems.

The findings suggest that firms are feeling increasingly confident as the economic recovery gathers pace, and many could see outsourcing as a way of improving their performance.

Industry analyst Gartner said earlier this year that worldwide enterprise IT spending across all sectors will rise by 4.1 per cent in 2010.
