Social networks – when does it facilitate a company’s work

Social networks are treated with ambiguity by businesses – some employ opportunities provided by such networks with enthusiasm while others view them sceptically. Research shows that social networks have a negative impact on employee productivity, because employees are distracted from their main work. On the other hand, properly used, they can help people to work more efficiently and facilitate communication between employees.

According to Vykintas Arlauskas, director of the IT company Blue Bridge Code, the use of social networks for a company’s needs is directly related to internal portals. It is possible to transfer many communication functions applied in social networks into portals and identify who will be authorised to use this internal information of the company. This leads to the formation of an internal company social network which can then be tailored to meet specific needs of the company and that operates only within the company.
