TietoEnator to deliver wood yard logistic system to Billerud Karlsborg

TietoEnator has been commissioned to deliver a wood yard logistic system to Billerud Karlsborg AB. Roaming Object Coordinating System (ROCS) is a modern solution based on Microsoft technology and GPS positioning of the wood yard. It supports more efficient handling of raw material in a wood yard.

Assar Stromback, responsible for the wood yard at Billerud Karlsborg AB, said: “As raw material costs have increased significantly over the last years it is important to optimize the material turnover. We must secure that we use the right quality of material in production and at the same time reduce the amount of unnecessary transportation of timber. We do this by keeping full control of our wood yard. The ROCS system will support our wood yard operators with relevant information at the time it is needed.”

Hans Hallin, Head of TietoEnator Forest Sweden, said: “The Forest industry is facing big challenges by increased raw material and energy costs. Our customers prefer ROCS because it has a unique and proven functionality and help them increase profitability. ROCS reduces the driving distance with the log stacker by limiting the number of incorrect movements. Of course this also lessens the environmental impact”.

ROCS is connected to Skogs Data Centralen (SDC) (economic association owned by Swedish forest industry). The solution gets its data from SDC online, containing all relevant information for the log handling.

The positions of the logs in the wood yard are marked on a digital map. The positions are secured via GPS and a wireless network. Truck drivers get online information about where to pick up logs and where to put them.

In addition it is possible to add online scales on log stackers for exact measurement of weight.
