Conference report

The Institute of Asset Management (IAM) organised the 13th Utilities Asset Management conference on 4-5th March 2008, in London. Beside the British authorities of the sector (OFGEM, OFWAT) the largest network companies of U.K. participated at the event.

The main topics of the conference were the following:

  • Long term planning, maintainable service from the point of view of the authorities,
  • Implementation and application experience of ‘PAS 55′ from the point of view of the authorities and the network licensees,
  • Case studies in electricity and water utility services, traffic (public transport, motorway, railway), nuclear power sector,
  • The affect of climate change to utilities’ assets.

The main message of the conference on the one hand is the extension of the more specific and precise asset management methods (life cycle planning with business optimization, risk based planning), and the evidence of the advantages arising from application of the ‘PAS 55′ asset management specification on the other.
