Since April, a PAC-led consortium of market, economic and policy experts has been helping the European Commission* – DG Information Society and Media – to define the future of the software industry in Europe.

In addition to PAC, the consortium includes IDATE in France, Fraunhofer ISI in Germany, and London Economics in the UK. This team of market, economic and policy experts aim to identify the economic and social impact of software and software-based services in Europe. Under the terms of the Ђ424, 600 contract, the consortium will also define a set of policies to encourage the growth and competitiveness of the software and IT services industry in Europe.

In the upcoming PAC webinar, Frederic Giron, Director at PAC in Paris, and Vincent Bonneau, Head of Internet Business Unit at IDATE, will take a look at the first results of this project, including:

  • Structure of the Software and Software-Based Services (SSBS) industry from 2008 through 2020
  • Main trends by “game changing” segments (cloud computing, mobility, open source, offshore, online advertising)
  • Main drivers and challenges regarding growth and competitiveness of the SSBS industry in Europe

*The opinions expressed above are those of PAC and do not represent the Commission’s official position.
