Winuel S.A. will expand the information technology system in Vatenfall

Vattenfall Distribution Poland S.A. has decided to expand its information technology system which supports business processes carried out by OSD. It has concluded an agreement with the company Winuel S.A. of the Sygnity Group on implementation of the ELMS system (Energy Losses Management System). The implementation is another step in execution of the project of comprehensive management of the balance difference in the distribution network of Vattenfall Distribution Poland S.A. (VDP).

The production activation of the ELMS system, pursuant to the concluded agreement, is scheduled for the end of December 2008. In the next months, works connected with optimizing the mathematical and statistic models of the radial network SN and nN, as well as the areas and structures of balancing electric energy per hour will be realized. The aim of the works is the best possible preparation of OSD – until the mid of 2009 – to effective management of the purchase portfolio by means of increasing the accuracy of planning amounts of energy per hour for the compensation of technical and distributional losses in the VDP network. In order to make this possible, VDP has defined two criteria to be met by an information technology solution:

  • the already existing system which is being exploited by OSD in Poland, in order to reduce time necessary to carry out analytical and design works, and generating software which is so far only in the concept phase
  • due to the ongoing settlements referring to the details designating OSD Graphic Unit, the system should be thoroughly flexible and fully configurable, both in regard to object structure and calculation algorithms.

The ELMS system of the company WINUEL S.A. (the Sygnity Group) meets the objectives defined above. The system has already been implemented by three operators in Poland. The core of the ELMS system is a converter processing various mathematical equations into SQL functions, on which the Oracle database system operates. The values of number ratios or the values for time series, e. g. energy per hour: JGBI, G_PMD and others, can be the outcome of calculation operations performed on number ratios, logical functions and time series of input data (with a standardized time base – 1 hour – the calculation period used on the Polish energy market).

The technology applied allows not only for free modification of the already implemented calculation algorithms, but also for generating new ones at the level of the system user.

Owing to this functionality, it is possible to generate algorithms connecting equations describing the basic electrotechnological laws with the technical data of the elements of the distribution network and amounts of energy input and output per hour. In the case of lack of data per hour referring to energy input by the groups of receivers measured by means of inductions meters, algorithms implemented in the system allow for their designation in an approximate way while using aggregated long-term data and the values per hour referring to unbalancing of particular areas.
