The World Experts on Security Meet in Brno

The fifth year of the international conference Security and Protection of Information (SPI) took place at the Brno Exhibition Center from 5 to 7 May 2009. The conference was attended by a number of renowned specialists in information technologies security, who came both from the Czech Republic and from abroad. Among the speakers there was also Petr Svojanovsky from ANECT a.s. – his presentation focused on ICT risk management.

In his lecture, which was co-authored by Ludek Novak from ANECT a.s. and Jitka Kreslikova from FIT VUT in Brno, Svojanovsky argued that the traditional approach to information security management, which is based on the ISO/IEC 27000 standard, may not be sufficient any longer. The number of security risks is increasing these days, and that is why, in Svojanovsky?s view, creating a more secure and effective management system requires using standards from other areas as well. A major part of the presentation provided listeners with details on ISO/IEC 20000, the very first international standard focusing on IT Service Management.

The conference was also attended by David Perry, one of the most renowned experts on security, who spoke about new types of threats for the Internet and about new concepts that could help us deal with them. Richard Clayton, a world-famous expert on message flow Internet resources and their anonymity and traceability, analyzed various types of Internet criminals and the tools we can use to stop their harmful activities.

Other interesting presentations were given by Dobromir Todorov from BT Global Services, who focused on the security of Unified Communications, and Anne-Marie Eklund Lowinder from the Swedish company SE, who spoke about the security of connection to DNS by using a DNSSEC solution.

The conference organization team consisted of four co-operating subjects: The University of Defence in Brno, The Security Department of the Czech Ministry of Defence, Brno Trade Fairs and CNSE. The event was a part of the tenth international fair of protection and security technologies and special information systems IDET.
