The Red Dot Design Award 2012 for Ericpol and Mill Studio

Ericpol and Mill Studio received a Red Dot Design Award 2012 in the „communication design” category for Agilendar, an original calendar based on Agile methodology. The award ceremony is going to be held on October 24, 2012 in Berlin.

The Red Dot Design Award is one of the biggest and most prestigious competitions in the world. This award is a proof of the high level of Ericpol designs. The project of the calendar is a result of the collaboration between Ericpol and Mill Studio, a design company from Krakow. The name of Agilendar is a combination of „agile” and „calendar”. Agilendar is intended for clients – telecommunications providers and technological companies using Agile methodology in their work. Yellow post-it notes are a characteristic feature and a symbol of the method. They are used as a means of communication during projects. Ericpol is one of the few companies in Europe that is a specialist in conducting large software development projects using this methodology.

‘The calendar based on Agile symbolism was intended to become a characteristic feature of Ericpol and to increase recognition of our company as an expert in conducting large projects using agile methods. Red Dot is a great distinction and the proof that we can be creative and innovative on every level of our company’s activities and that we can receive the best marks in the world,’ says Jan Malkiewicz, the author of the concept and co-author of the calendar. He is also responsible for communications and marketing in Ericpol. This year, only two projects from Poland were awarded prizes in the communication design category.

‘This was a difficult project because it involved not strictly graphic work. The production process was very complex. You could say that a functional 3-D OBJECT has been created, designed in all details, from the prototype to the packaging. For us, Red Dot means the best reference for the future and great satisfaction from participation in this project,’ Marta Szmyd from Mill Studio concludes.

‘All creative works which were successful in the Red Dot Award: communication design 2012 were appreciated by the international jury of experts. Becoming a winner among thousands of entries from 43 countries is a proof of potential; it guarantees being noticed in the international arena and gives the possibility of taking the best possible position,’ prof. dr Peter Zec, initiator and president of the competition, says and then adds, ‘Being awarded a distinction ensures a competitive advantage and is evidence that the winners had to compete with the most creative minds in the industry.’

Only 511 works out of 6,823 accepted entries received „a red dot”. Assessment criteria applied by the Jury included originality, emotional quality, reaching the target group efficiently, quality of the project, recognition value and social importance, interface and aesthetics, appearance, and feel.

Winners are going to be honoured at a special award ceremony on October 24, 2012 in Konzerthaus in Berlin. Then, Designers’ Night will be held in Alte Münze in Berlin. This event will be a great party and a premiere of a special exhibition titled „Design on stage – winners of Red Dot: communication design 2012″. The exhibition will include all the recognized works and will be presented on October 25-28, 2012.
